California Governor Gavin Newsom has streamlined CalFresh eligibility requirements, enabling college students enrolled at least half-time in state universities and community colleges to more easily qualify for monthly food assistance up to $306, potentially benefiting over 200,000 additional students. Separately, bipartisan federal legislation has been reintroduced to expand Medicaid coverage for current and former foster youth, addressing healthcare gaps during their transition to adulthood. Newsom also inducted over 10,000 new members into the California Service Corps, now the nation's largest state-level service program, to work on community projects ranging from disaster preparedness to climate action.
